GDI – Guildford Driving Instructor My Services
I only offer manual driving lessons as well as a variety of different options for beginner drivers like weekly lessons to intensive driving courses. I also cater for those that need a simple refresher and motorway course, through to overseas drivers looking to drive in the UK once their international license has expired. I am a skilled and fully qualified driving instructor and I will cover all requirements. BUT It’s also important to remember that with a manual licence you’ll be able to drive both manual and auto cars once you’ve passed your driving test. So personally that’s why I teach in a manual car.
That means that choosing to learn to drive a manual will give you more options when buying or renting a vehicle. Another benefit to getting your manual licence is that manual cars tend to be cheaper than the auto version of the same make, and, as the mechanism is less complicated, they can often be more reliable. Lastly, if you’re planning to do a lot of driving in icy or snowy conditions, then a manual can offer greater control and so perform better when roads are slippery.

GDI – Learning To Drive Feeling Nervous or Anxious
Many people who learn to drive have a combination of nerves and excitement. Even if someone says they have no nerves and are perfectly confident when it comes to driving, the first time you get behind the wheel and move the vehicle you are bound to feel nervous, and possibly as mentioned some excitement. Sometimes people tell themselves that they are nervous and expect to be nervous, and this gets the better of them. The main cause of nerves is not feeling in control, or worrying about your own ability. So it is essential to remember that no-one is able to drive safely from day one that’s the point of lessons, gradually getting better as you build up experience at driving on the roads, getting used to the car, the controls, the space around the car, road conditions, reacting to other drivers, learning to control the vehicle.
Many nervous drivers also have the character trait of over-analysing how they are doing, and what they are doing. Being aware of your own performance is of course a good thing, but do not analyse to the detriment of yourself by making yourself super nervous. I am a experienced driving instructor and my car has dual controls too, so try to put your trust in me. I will give you honest feedback on your performance and all our driving instructors are experienced at working with nervous and anxious drivers because the fact is many people learning to drive ARE nervous and anxious.

GDI – Learning To Drive With Learning Difficulties
If you suffer with any learning difficulties Dyslexia, Dyspraxia or ADHD and want to learn to drive then don’t worry. Then I can offer you driving lessons to suit you and your individual needs. Throughout your individual ‘journey’ in learning to drive, aspects of dyslexia, Dyspraxia or ADHD should be positively looked for in order to provide the required support. Many adults do not know they are dyslexic or have any learning difficulties as it was not identified when they were at school.
Comments made by Rod Nicholson were interpreted as he suggested that dyslexics were bad drivers. This is not correct yes it takes some dyslexics pupil longer to develop automaticity in driving. You may have to concentrate harder? You may not be able to talk with a passenger at the same time as driving? He also said it would take the Dyslexic or Dyspraxia pupil longer to learn to drive, and they may need more than one attempt to pass the practical test? it is NOT always the case with me

We believe that the younger a person starts to drive and when the driving is spread gradually over a few years the young driver becomes more confident in the control of the car and is more aware of not only their but also the cars limitations.
